Dr. Suzuki obtained his Zoology degree from the University of Western Ontario. He then moved to Winnipeg and graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry in 1995. To enhance his education he then completed a General Practice Residency at the University of British Columbia and BC Cancer Agency. Following that Dr. Suzuki completed three years of specialty training at the University of Manitoba to become a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics in 1999. Dr. Suzuki’s father was a graduate of the same dental program in 1969!
One of Dr. Suzuki’s biggest influences in his life has been his father, Dr. Makoto Suzuki. Dr. Suzuki Senior was a professor of dentistry for over 35 years and was a leading researcher in dental material science for many years and is the main reason why Dr. Suzuki became a dental specialist.
Dr. Jonathan Suzuki believes in using the latest orthodontic technology when treating patients. He doesn’t utilize just one appliance or system; he uses all the latest orthodontic techniques, matching the system to the patients’ needs, with either a clear aligner system (ie. Invisalign), lingual braces or traditional metal and clear braces. His main goal with this approach is to make the patient’s experience of orthodontic treatment as pleasant as possible all while making sure treatment is progressing at the optimal biologically appropriate rate. Dr. Suzuki has had braces twice in his life himself — and so he endeavours to educate his patients as best he can to let them know exactly what is going on while they are receiving their treatment. Dr. Suzuki strongly believes the properly educated patient is the best patient!
Dr. Suzuki maintains his education through memberships in the Canadian Association of Orthodontists as well as the Canadian Dental Association and is a past president of the BC Society of Orthodontists. He has been a volunteer member on several committees at the College of Dental Surgeons of BC for the last 10 years
Dr. Suzuki is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada, an honour granted only to those dental specialists who write and pass an examination in their specialty, in this case, Orthodontics.
Dr. Suzuki lives in Kelowna with his wife Vera. His interests include photography, driving, golfing and travelling.
