Dr Abougoush and Dr. McIntosh have had extensive training in Occlusion management at the Koiscenter, under the guidance of Dr. John Kois.
The courses they have taken include the following: (www.koiscenter.com)
Functional Occlusion I: Science Driven Management
Understanding the role occlusion plays relating to wear, mobility, TMD, stability, and restorative failure is critical. By focusing on diagnosis, the practitioner will be able to develop the parameters to create more successful restorative results and know when complex treatment may not be necessary. This course will also provide a hands-on workshop for facebow management and jaw relation records following deprogramming.

Functional Occlusion II: Complex Restorative Management
This course is designed to implement the philosophy outlined in Course II. This involves the three-dimensional case management process. This three-dimensional case management is absolutely essential when making vertical and horizontal changes to the system. Participants will be able to manage any restorative challenges and be confident they can provide the laboratory with the necessary records to restore the entire masticatory system. This includes partially and fully edentulous patients.
These studies have been furthered by Dr. Norm Ickerts Mini-Residency at the Ickert Teaching Centre. Dr. Ickert is a Kois Center mentor and clinical instructor. The residency involves Kois Center dentists, lead by Dr. Ickert. Complex clinical cases are reviewed and treatment plans are developed using the Kois principles. Occlusion is a complex, ever evolving science and this mini-residency allows Dr. Abougoush and McIntosh to interact and discuss complex cases with other leading edge professionals.
